  1. WELCOME TO THE PAGESTREAM 3.2 PRE-RELEASE BETA 8 UPDATE!

  4. TO USE THIS PATCH:
  5.  
  6. 1. You must have PageStream 3.2 beta 8 installed to use this file!
  7. If you have a previous version, you must upgrade to beta 7 first. All
  8. patch files are available from Aminet. Links to the files are available
  9. at http://www.softlogik.com/prgupdat.html.
  10.  
  11. 2. You must have a battery-backed clock in your Amiga. This time-limited
  12. public beta will not work without a clock, even if you manually set the
  13. date before using the program.
  14.  
  15. 3. This update requires disk 1 of your original PageStream3 disk set. It
  16. will not be modified by the update.
  17.  
  18. 4. You must have sufficient free hard drive space to use this patch. 4MB
  19. of free space is recommended.

  22. THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED PUBLIC BETA OF PAGESTREAM 3.2
  23.  
  24. You will be able to use the features of this beta until October 5th.
  25. After then, you must install 3.1 or 3.2.

  28. USING THIS PATCH
  29.  
  30. IF YOU HAVE 5MB OR MORE OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to
  31. RAM and not worry about memory limitations.
  32.  
  33. IF YOU HAVE 4MB OF FREE RAM, you can decompress the archives to RAM, but
  34. you must delete the archives from RAM before running the patch. (Copy
  35. them somewhere safe in case you need them again!)
  36.  
  37. IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 4MB OF FREE RAM, you must decompress the archives
  38. to a hard drive directory because you'll need all your RAM for the patch.
  39.  
  40. A drawer called "3.2Beta8" will be created when you decompress the
  41. patches. Double click on the Install-3.2Beta8 icon in this drawer to
  42. begin.

  45. YOU SHOULD KEEP A COPY OF THE PATCH FILES UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE
  46. SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THIS UPDATE IN CASE YOU NEED TO RUN IT AGAIN!

  48. If you delete them after decompressing them, and something goes wrong
  49. during patching, you will have to download them again! If you have
  50. adequate hard drive space, simply select the PageStream3 directory and
  51. choose Copy from the Workbench's Icon menu to make a complete duplicate
  52. of your PageStream3 directory. If you have a problem with the patch, you
  53. will have a backup to restore.

  56. LOW MEMORY NOTES
  57.  
  58. If you do not have enough memory to install this patch (the patch utility
  59. will fail if there is not enough free memory), you can conserve memory by
  60. decompressing the patch archives to your hard drive instead of to RAM:.
  61. If the patch fails due to low memory, you will not be able to use
  62. PageStream3 until you have successfully installed the patch because you
  63. will then have a mixture of new and old files. If you need to run the
  64. patch manually, decompress the PGSpatch.LHA archive. Use the spatch
  65. utility from this archive. The command syntax is:

  67. spatch -oPageStream3:PageStreamNew -pPageStream.pch PageStream3:PageStream3
  68.  
  69. The first parameter is the new version, the second parameter is the
  70. patch file name (include the path if required), and the third
  71. parameter is the currently installed version of PageStream3. Delete
  72. the old PageStream3:PageStream3 file when you're done and then rename the
  73. new version to the normal name (ie, PageStreamNew to PageStream3).

  75. If you have previously compressed the PageStream3 or BME program files
  76. with something such as PowerPacker, you will probably not be able to use
  77. this patch, even if you decompress them.
